Mission
The mission of the Groups Scholars Program Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) Initiative is to promote and enhance the academic and professional experiences of first-generation, underrepresented students in the STEM disciplines through research, structured mentoring, and educational support.
The STEM Initiative was created to prepare and advance students as research scientists, research physicians, and professionals in the public health fields. STEM scholars are exposed to the Foundations of Research learning curriculum and practical lab or research experience to develop knowledge and skills critical for obtaining a baccalaureate degree in a STEM major. STEM majors include animal science, biology, chemistry, computer science, environmental science, exercise science, geology, informatics, math, neuroscience, nutrition science, psychology, statistics, and more!
