In today's virtual learning environment, technology needs and accessibility have now, more than ever, become a necessity for a student to reach academic success. In part, Groups Scholars are accepted based on their limited family incomes, so we know students and their families have limited financial opportunities to obtain and access the tools and technology required to perform daily coursework successfully.
In 2019, we learned that some students were failing in their courses simply because they could not afford the equipment necessary to succeed in their classes. One student told us, "It was extremely difficult not having a computer for the first part of the Summer Experience Program. I was in a computing class, and I did not have a personal laptop to work on an assignment. Using a laptop during class time was essential, and I was forced to memorize everything and apply the skills later."
We invite you to join our mission to provide the Groups Scholars class of 2022 with the technology they need to have a successful experience at Indiana University! The Groups Scholars Technology Drive is accepting donations now. Please help us reach our goal of providing all freshmen with a laptop!
