How to Apply

Becoming a Groups Scholar

To be eligible for the Groups Scholars programs students must meet the following requirements:

  •  Be a resident of the state of Indiana
  •  Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen (Has a green card)
  • Meet the income and eligibility guidelines
    • Please contact us directly obtain information contained in these documents in an accessible format.
  •  Have a minimum cumulative high school GPA of at least 2.5
  • Take the SAT or ACT by the October date.
  • Complete the minimum (34 semesters) college preparatory courses

Personal characteristics also are an important part of being a Groups Scholar. We look for students who demonstrate a positive attitude, a sense of civility, the ability to persevere and a strong motivation to succeed, an excellent attendance record, and a commitment to earn a college degree.

Applications are due by November 1 of each year.

A lot of freshmen come here and are overwhelmed. But I already know where all our classes are, and I have friends not only from my hometown but people I’ve met through Groups. I’m not going to be alone. I just feel really prepared and confident.

Recommenders

A high school student’s first step to becoming a Groups Scholar is to be recommended to the program by a “recommender” from a high school or a community agency. A recommendation is the only way students can gain admittance to the Groups Scholars Program. Selected students also are required to meet certain program criteria, as well as possess personal attributes such as a positive attitude, a sense of civility, the ability to persevere and a strong motivation to succeed, an excellent attendance record, and a commitment to earn a college.
